Elders Council

The Elders Council may participate in dispute resolution, including the alternatives to the court processes. A panel from the Elder's Council, referred to as the Acceptance Commission is responsible for approving customary acceptance on behalf of Chief and Council.

The Elders Council are appointed by Chief and Council and work on behalf of Chief and Council with the Board of Directors to review potential members for eligibility to receive service delivery. The Elders Council will work closely with the Board of Directors to review and develop governance policies that provide direction on service delivery outcomes for children, youth and families.

The Elders Council is a neutral body that will assist children, youth and families and the Agency to achieve alternatives other than the traditional court process to address child protection concerns with the family and their supports. The Elders Council will also advocate on behalf of children, youth and families in the dispute resolution process. The Elders Council will also collaborate with the Band Membership Office to ascertain potential membership to Peguis First Nation in order to determine if the individual is eligible to receive services
